Learn about John Wesley Powell’s journey to map the Grand Canyon, which turned into a fight for survival. Powell, while a notable and integral geologist during Westward Expansion, also held and promoted views of Indigenous peoples already living in the canyon—today, these views are recognized as inaccurate and damaging.
