Job: Full Time, Controller in Tucson, Arizona. HYBRID
Pay Range: $80,000 - $90,000 (Annually)
Do you love financial reporting and all things numbers? Western National Parks (WNP), a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service (NPS), home-based in Tucson, Arizona is seeking a Full Time, Controller. In this role, you will be responsible for the accounting operations of the company.
WNP is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and analytic individual who will work to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of company’s financial results through, reporting and set controls. Job responsibilities
This role is responsible for completing the following tasks and any related tasks as assigned:
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Oversees preparation of bank reconciliation, assists with revenue and expenditure variance analysis, year-end closing entries, and audit schedules.
- Assist in maintaining internal control safeguards and coordinating all audit activities.
- Ensures the organization follows and, is in compliance with, all operating legal and regulatory requirements and that required local, federal, and state filings and reports are processed in a timely manner.
- Responsible for monitoring revenue and expenditure transactions.
- Monitor inventory balances.
- Prepare and record inventory accrual.
- Prepare and record inventory reserve adjustment.
- Prepare quarterly inventory turnover report.
- Quarterly cash audit management.
- Prepare and record monthly Operations overhead allocation.
- Prepare and file state and local sales tax reports.
- Perform general ledger analysis of Balance Sheet and Expense accounts and communicate ledger adjustments.
- Reviews, approves, and reconciles Direct Annual Aid requests.
- Maintains the Direct Annual Aid Planning Document.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, reports, and records.
- Research and resolve discrepancies.
- Assists in budget entry into the financial system.
- Manage weekly AP check run.
- Reconcile fiduciary fund activity and report balances.
- Maintain capitalization schedule and ensure accurate transactions.
- Troubleshoot accounting software issue.
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all deliverables comply with internal policies and procedures and professional standards.
- Assist in the performance of the annual audit and collect documents needed.
- Work with external auditors and examiners to ensure that the organization follows established acceptable accounting standards and organization policies and procedures.
- Provides support in the management of the accounting team activities.
- Provides staff training and guidance on various accounting topics across the organization.
- Provide support and assistance to the Assoc. Director of Finance in departmental administrative functions.
- Performs other related accounting/finance duties and functions as management might assign from time to time.
Supportive functions
- Conduct all administrative and supportive tasks in a timely fashion.
- Perform all clerical duties including, but not limited to, routine faxing/mail distribution, telephone coverage, filing, data entry, and daily maintenance of the Finance/Accounting Department’s systems.
- Demonstrate exceptional communication and customer service skills throughout all functions of the job including, but not limited to, internal and external customers, volunteer staff, home office staff, field staff, special event staff, committees and board members.

Travel
Occasional travel may be required to various local events or speaking engagements. Occasional overnight trips may be required. Additionally, may be required to use personal or company vehicles.
Qualifications & experience
This role must have the following qualifications and/or experience unless otherwise noted:
- Bachelor Degree in accounting or business administration required; or equivalent business experience.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or related field.
- Familiarity with/ability to use WNP accounting system (SAGE Pro).
- Experience working with or for the National Park Service (NPS) or similar public historical, cultural, or land management entity a plus.
- Experience in retail helpful, but not required.
- Must be able to effectively present information and timely respond to questions from managers, customers and vendors.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, multi-tasking, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
- Experience with variety of computer programs including but not limited to Internet, databases, Video conferencing software (i.e. Zoom) and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint), experience with RetailPro a Plus but not required.
- Knowledge of standard accounts payable and payroll policies, procedures and regulations.
- Knowledge of basic input, output, error correction, and general ledger account structure.
- Knowledge of purchase orders and related accounts payable documentation.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to effectively prioritize tasks.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
- Ability to understand/interpret vendor invoices and statements and other requests for payment.
- Ability to make independent judgment(s) and maintain attention throughout the performance of duties.
