Surrounded by the San Juan Mountains, Durango is a railroad town turned haven for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and culture seekers. 

Durango retains much of its historic charm, but is now a very inclusive and modern mountain town. Visitors can learn about the area’s Indigenous heritage at nearby ancestral Puebloan sites such as Mesa Verde National Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument. The Ute (Nuuchiu) and Jicarilla Apache people have lived in this region for countless generations, and their cultures continue to shape Durango’s vibrant identity.
