Hike in the dune field and experience the tallest dunes in North America. Rent a sandboard or sled from a nearby outfitter and slide down the dunes.
Picnicking and Trails

Hike
For a shady escape, hike the Montville Nature Trail, a short 0.5-mile loop through a beautiful forested area with views of the dunes. Stop at the nearby Piñon Flats Campground or the Dunes Picnic Area for a scenic lunch location.

Photography and ranger-led programs
Check in at the visitor center or call ahead to plan to attend a ranger-led program. Take advantage of the incredible scenery here to take some once-in-a-lifetime pictures in front of the dunes.
