Take the Balconies Cave & Cliffs Loop (1.8 miles from Chapparell Parking Area) to experience soaring rock walls and stunning overlooks, making it a great spot for sunset views.
Walking among giants in Sequoia National Park

The world's largest tree
After making the 167 mile drive to Sequoia National Park, start at the Giant Forest Museum and hike the General Sherman Tree Trail (0.5 miles one way) to see the largest tree on Earth by volume. Continue on the Congress Trail to admire even more monumental sequoias.

Drive to Moro Rock and take on the short but steep 350 step staircase climb to one of the best panoramic views in the park. Soak in sweeping vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountains from the top of this large granite dome.

Tunnel Log & Crescent Meadow
Visit the famous Tunnel Log, a fallen sequoia you can drive through. Then, take a stroll through Crescent Meadow, a peaceful area that John Muir once called the "Gem of the Sierra."
Exploring Kings Canyon National Park

Journey into the canyon
Take a drive on the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, one of the most breathtaking drives in the country, winding through granite cliffs and deep valleys. Stop at Grizzly Falls and Roaring River Falls, two short but rewarding waterfall hikes.

Hike to Mist Falls
Don’t miss a day hike to Mist Falls (8 miles roundtrip), one of the best trails in Kings Canyon. The path follows the South Fork of the Kings River, leading to a powerful waterfall and stunning canyon views.

Zumwalt Meadow & final scenic stop
Explore the easy Zumwalt Meadow Loop (1.5 miles) for a peaceful walk surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush greenery. Before heading home, stop at Panoramic Point Overlook for one last breathtaking view over Kings Canyon.

Visit Smart
Plan ahead
Campgrounds fill up quickly, especially in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Book sites in advance or secure nearby lodging.
Be bear aware
These parks are home to black bears. Store food properly in bear-proof containers and follow park guidelines to avoid encounters.
Pack for varying conditions
Weather can shift quickly, from hot days in Pinnacles to cooler temperatures at higher elevations in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Bring layers and plenty of water.
Leave no trace
These beautiful landscapes are sacred to many Indigenous peoples. Stay on designated trails, pack out all trash, and preserve the natural environment for future visitors.
