Know before you go! Before undertaking any new outdoor adventure in a national park, check nps.gov for the most up-to-date information. Be sure you have the right wheels for the right ride and bring lots of water. If you’re bikepacking, be aware that many parks have beautiful campgrounds or are right next to state-managed grounds.

Ride the Paved Path at Boca Negra Canyon
Boca Negra Canyon is a 70 acre section of the 7,236 acres within the monument boundaries. The paved multi-use path is a safe way to appreciate the beauty and culture of the park via bike. Cyclists must stay on the paved path, which is steep and not recommended for the inexperienced.
Located right outside Albuquerque, New Mexico, Petroglyph National Monument preserves thousands of petroglyphs carved by Pueblo, Diné, and other Indigenous peoples, as well as some Spanish colonists. The lands are sacred to the Pueblo, Diné, and Apache peoples. Visitors can learn about and appreciate the beauty of the landscape and the culture preserved there. The park’s proximity to Albuquerque makes it a very enriching destination for Albuquerque cyclists who can ride from the city to the park on well-kept bike lanes.

Ride the Scenic Ajo Drive at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument
Access this 21-mile drive across the highway from the visitor center. There are some paved sections, but the road is mostly dirt, so be sure your tires are up to the task! With an elevation gain of approximately five hundred feet, this ride will take you through the beautiful Sonoran Desert, homelands of the Tohono O’odham.
Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is an International Biosphere Reserve with breathtaking views of the lush landscape, including the iconic Organ Pipe Cactus. There are a wide range of hiking trails and campsites, so be sure to bring your bike for a whole weekend!

The trail is maintained with self-service bike stations. Perfect to bike with the whole family, the River Mountains Loop Trail is a great way to experience the expansive beauty of the park with no cars or other motorized vehicles. The park has ample camping areas, hiking, and plenty of water recreation, so there’s something for every adventurer.
