John Muir National Historic Site

Franklin Ridge Hike

Grab your hiking shoes and friends to come out and join us on this guided hike through beautiful wide-
open meadows and small patches of shady oak forest. This trail travels past the summit of Mt. Wanda and
John Muir National Historic Site into John Muir Land Trust properties.

Route: Mt. Wanda (main fire road), Almond Ranch, and Hal Olsen Founders Trail

Parking: The Mount Wanda staging area and parking lot on the south side of Highway 4 at the
intersection of Alhambra Avenue and Franklin Canyon Road, Martinez, CA 94553.

When: Saturday, September 27, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Length: 4.5 miles
Elevation gain: 1,066 feet
Estimated hike duration: 2.5 – 3 hours
Trail type: Out & back
Difficulty: Moderate/Strenuous
What to bring/wear:
• Hiking pack
• Weather-appropriate comfortable clothing

• Trekking poles (if you want to use them during the hike)

event. No bathrooms or drinking water are available at the trailhead or on site.
