International Observe the Moon Night (CANCELLED)
*Due to the current lapse in federal government appropriations, all events at Big Thicket National Preserve are cancelled until funding has been restored and normal operations resume.
Celebrate and Observe the Moon!
Join rangers for a special Moon-themed program in the visitor center theater. After the presentation, take a night hike on the Longleaf Pine Trail to a telescope viewing area where we will look at the Moon, Saturn, and other objects in the night sky. Make your own night sky art with help from our new artist-in-residence!
Meet at the visitor center. Please bring a flashlight for hiking in the darkness!
International Observe the Moon Night is an annual world-wide public engagement program that encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of our Moon and its connection to NASA planetary science and exploration. Everyone on Earth is invited to join the celebration by hosting or attending an event.
