Padre Island National Seashore

Learn-to-Surf Fish Clinic

Let's Go Fishing!

The IGFA is teaming up with Padre Island National Seashore to host a free, public Learn-to-Surf Fish Clinic at the Malaquite Visitor Center (20420 Park Rd 22, Corpus Christi, TX 78418) for National Public Lands Day on September 27, 2025. Participants will learn about basic tackle, knot tying, conservation, casting and safety, and environmental stewardship through the IGFA's Passports to Fishing program as the IGFA believes this is the foundation of an ethical angler. Participants carry around their passports to different educational stations, learn the tasks, and then get their passports stamped at each station. Once their passports are complete, they then fish at their leisure under the supervision of trained staff and volunteers. Rods and reels, including a select number of surf rods and reels, will be provided for participants to use throughout the duration of the event. All fishing will be catch-and-release. This is also an extension of the Junior Ranger Angler Let's Go Fishing! activity book in which all youth participants will receive a Junior Ranger Angler badge for their participation.

This is a free, public event and no registration is required. The education stations and the fishing will be open from 9:30am to 12pm on September 27, 2025. This event was made possible in part by a grant through the National Park Foundation.
