Hike the Boca Negra Canyon

Start your day at the Petroglyph National Monument Visitor Information Center to get oriented. Then head to Boca Negra Canyon, where you can see 100 petroglyphs on a 1-mile loop.

Explore the canyons

Head to Rinconada Canyon for a less crowded, moderate 2.2-mile round-trip hike to see petroglyphs along basalt cliffs. Take a break at the nearby Pueblo Montaño Picnic Area by the Rio Grande.

Discover Piedras Marcadas Canyon

Drive to the northernmost section of the park at Piedras Marcadas Canyon for 2.5 miles of trail that offers some of the best-preserved carvings in the monument.

Catch sunset at the Volcanoes Day Use Area as you hike the 2-mile Vulcan Volcano loop trail through the rugged landscape of dormant cinder cones. Head back into town to wind down and enjoy local flavors.
