Exploring near the East Entrance

Bear Gulch
Arrive at Pinnacles National Park via the East Entrance. Stop at the Bear Gulch Nature Center to check trail conditions and learn about the park. Hike the Bear Gulch Cave Trail (1.4 miles roundtrip). Explore the talus caves (if open) and see Bear Gulch Reservoir.

Afternoon hikes
Hike the Condor Gulch to High Peaks Loop (via Bear Gulch). This iconic hike takes you through narrow rock staircases and offers breathtaking views of the park.

Set up camp under the stars and enjoy the beautiful dark skies.

North Chalone Peak
Take on the highest point in the park on this 9-mile roundtrip trail that offers views of the surrounding valleys.

West Side adventure and rock formations

Morning at the West Entrance
Drive to Pinnacles West Entrance. Hike the Balconies Cave Trail and walk through another set of talus caves. Here you'll be surrounded by incredible rock formations. Don't forget to charge your phone because you will want to take pictures.

Afternoon challenge
For a challenge, continue on the Old Pinnacles Trail. Enjoy the serenity of a trickling creek and the rising cliffs and rock formations unique to this park, including Machete Ridge, one of the most iconic landmarks. If you catch this one in the Golden Hour of the afternoon, you won't be sorry. This is one of the park's most popular trails.
