Junior Ranger Fall Fiesta: Celebrating Monarch Butterflies

Celebrate the monarch butterfly migration and the changing of seasons at this fun and free family-friendly event! This indoor and outdoor fiesta will feature kids’ activities, presentations, live music, giveaways for kids under 18, and more. Kids will learn about monarch migration, celebrate their cultural significance, and discover ways to help protect this iconic species.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

10 AM – 2 PM | Junior Ranger Adventure Stations*, hosted by Pima County Master Naturalists & The Xerces Society volunteers

  • Arts & Crafts:  Color a Monarch Puppet; Create a Caterpillar Pal; “Pollinators Rock” Rock Art
  • Interpretation & Education: Monarch Migration, Butterfly Life Cycles, “Taste” and See Like A Butterfly, Magnification Observations
  • *First 50 participants will receive a 1-gallon milkweed plant to take home!

10:20 AM10:40 AM | Metamorphosis to Meaning: a short, kid-friendly presentation by Cassandra Quijada about monarch butterfly’s significance in Mexican & Mexican-American cultures.

10:45 AM – 11:00 AM | Children’s Storytime with Jenna Marvin, Pima County Master Naturalist.

11:00 AM – 12 PM | Desert Museum Family Band live musical performance, featuring original songs about the Sonoran Desert in English & Spanish.

12:15 PM – 12:35 PM | Metamorphosis to Meaning: a short, kid-friendly presentation by Cassandra Quijada about the monarch butterfly’s significance in Mexican & Mexican-American cultures.

12:45 PM – 1:00 PM | Children’s Storytime with Jenna Marvin, Pima County Master Naturalist.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM | Desert Museum Family Band live musical performance, featuring original songs about the Sonoran Desert in English & Spanish.
