Join us on July 30th at 6:00 pm for a discussion on Alice Baumgartner’s South to Freedom. Baumgartner explores the relationship between the United States and Mexico in the 19th century through the lens of the institution of slavery. She lays out the history from Mexico’s independence up until the American Civil War to demonstrate how slavery helped define the relationship between the two nations and how the issue of Texas annexation and the US-Mexican War led to the American Civil War.
