Palo Alto Battlefield Book Club

Join us at the Palo Alto Visitor Center on June 25th at 6:00 pm for a discussion on Lamont Wood’s Thorton’s Luck. Wood tells the story of the event that started it all. On the night of April 24th, 1846, Captain Seth B. Thornton and two companies of the 2nd Dragoons headed towards Las Rusias to see if rumors of the Mexican army crossing the Rio Grande were true. The disaster that ensued in the early hours of the following morning sparked the initial fighting on the Rio Grande and prompted the US declaration of war on Mexico.
