Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve
The Original "Rock" Band, the Legacy of Lithophones at the Great Sand Dunes NP&P
Join us with Esteban Salazar as we peek into the past at an interesting artifact class that the Park has in its museum collection called "lithophones." "Litho" means "stone" and "phonic" means "sound" and what we have are the subjects of research by archaeologists that may represent musical instruments used by early cultures. This program will discuss prior research conducted on these artifacts and what archaeologists have learned about them. We will have lithophones on display and will demonstrate their phonic wonders.
