Plan your trail trip
The Santa Fe National Historic Trail stretches from Missouri to New Mexico, retracing a commercial route used from the 1820s to 1880 that connected cultures and communities. Off the beaten path and well worth a trip.
A trail with stories to tell
Santa Fe National Historic Trail crosses five states and 1,200 miles. From the 1820s to 1880, the Santa Fe Trail was a major trading route used by Indigenous peoples, Gold Rush emigrants, traders, military regiments, and important figures in Western history. Today, the historic corridor offers plenty of opportunities for recreation and learning.
